Coconut Oil….A True Life Saver.
I’ve recently picked up a jar of cold pressed organic virgin coconut oil at TJ Maxx (no surprise there) for about $5.
Testing out a few things I researched, I discovered its many uses/life hacks that I just had to share with you guys!
1. Moisturizer (no surprise here either):
So many facial moisturizers are “enriched with coconut oil.” Why not just use coconut oil itself?
Coconut oil works great for a facial moisturizer because it’s known to prevent wrinkles and under eye bags. It’s like a magical oil that hydrates and repairs your skin!
Because I suffer from major under eye circles, I love to apply a small portion of coconut oil under my eyes after a long day of full coverage concealer. I still recommend using your typical night time moisturizers before doing so. Elizabeth Arden’s Good Night's Sleep Restoring Cream is my current fave!
Coconut oil as a facial and under eye moisturizer works best at night because it does appear to look really oily. In other words, I wouldn’t recommend using it before applying makeup (unless you REALLY want that dewy look.)
It works wonders as a body moisturizer too. I love applying it after a shower so I feel fresh and hydrated all day long. It has quickly cured my dry elbows!
2. Natural Lip Balm:
Anyone else matte liquid lipstick obsessed? Because I use these so often, I find that my lips have become quite dry. I highly recommend applying some coconut oil before going to sleep or before applying any liquid lipstick. It won’t ruin the effect of the “matte look” but it’ll surely hydrate them.
3. Natural Makeup Remover:
Its oily texture works to remove any stubborn makeup that won’t come off easy. Think of waterproof products!
4. Sunburn Treatment:
Boat days and the summer season call for some unfavorable sunburns. Coconut oil is known to quickly cure any harsh sunburns and can also be used as a sunscreen because of its natural SPF!
5. Leave-in Conditioner:
Although an amazing hair product, too much coconut oil can leave an undesired greasy effect. After washing my hair, I love to apply a penny sized amount of coconut oil only on my ends. This serves as a heat protector and helps to hydrate any split ends. I wouldn’t recommend too much of this to any one with very thin hair because of the oily effect. Be cautious with the amount you use.
6. Cellulite Cream:
With some research, I’ve recently learned that coconut oil can reduce stretch marks and some cellulite. This hasn’t been a proven theory by me yet, but I’m currently applying coconut oil daily in hopes of results!
7. Burns and Scars:
I find myself constantly dropping my hot curling wand on my skin (oops!)
It’s led to a few scars on my arms and even on my legs (I’m a little clumsy)
Applying coconut oil to these scars has healed them a lot faster than usual.
It works like Neosporin!
8. And finally… Pets!
My 14-year-old dog suffers from dry, flaky skin. I figured since coconut oil works so great as a moisturizer, it’d work great on my dog’s skin as well! I either mix it in with dog shampoo or apply the oil right after bathing and lightly rinse with water. This has stopped my dog from scratching as often and has slowly helped to cure his sensitive skin.
I hope this post inspires you all to invest in a jar of coconut oil. Although it has endless uses, these are my top favorite reasons why it is one of the greatest products everyone should have around. Besides just beauty hacks, coconut oil is actually used by many people in their diet because of its major health benefits!
