I’m back with the latest updates on Tarte’s Shape Tape Foundation!
The cosmetics brand received major hate on social media for having a limited shade range of dark colors (only 3 to be exact). Let’s just say, people on the internet were furious! There’s been so many YouTube videos of makeup gurus accusing Tarte of racism; however, the cosmetics brand completely took the blame and publicly apologized via Instagram story.
"It may be too little too late, but we can assure you this was not meant in any kind of malicious way. We all just got so caught up in #shapetapenation and seeing your tweets asking for it... We wanted to get the product out as fast as possible, & we made the decision to move forward before all the shades were ready to go. We know there is no excuse, & we take full responsibility for launching this way. We lost sight of what's really important in this industry, & for those who feel alienated in our community, we want to personally apologize. We're doing everything in our power to bring those unfinished shades to market as fast as we can, at any cost. We CAN and WILL DO BETTER."
Sounds heartfelt, right?
Moving on to the actual product, the Shape Tape Concealer is the only concealer I ever use. It’s that good. So you can already guess how high I had my hopes up for the foundation.
Let me start by saying that if you have dry skin this is not the product for you. I regularly don’t have dry skin and this foundation made it seem like I did.
I was so excited to try this for the first time but found myself a bit disappointed. Streaky, dry and patchy is not really the look I go for. The only way for this to slightly work is to use a hydrating primer or facial oil beforehand.
It gets a little darker/orangey a few minutes after applying and makes my smile and eye wrinkles look much worse. Being a huge fan of the Amazonian Clay and Shape Tape Concealer, I don’t think this product lived up to its expectations.
It would have so much potential if it weren’t so damn drying. The only thing I truly appreciate is the application because it's so easy to put on without being totally messy.
So there you have it! I hate to be a total “Negative Nancy” but I know a great product when I see one and unfortunately this one kinda sucked. Who knows? Maybe they’ll change up their formula, but for now I’ll stick to the Amazonian Clay!
