Another collaboration between Jaclyn Hill and Morphe (what a surprise).
Let me start off by saying that I’ve been a huge fan of both Jaclyn and Morphe since day one. Her original eye shadow palette completely blew me away and is seriously the best palette I’ve ever used. I’m not even being dramatic when I say it has every color you’ll ever need.
Being a huge fan of the original palette, you already know I expected nothing less from her Vault collection.
Let’s backtrack a little before going straight into the collection. For those of you who may not know about the drama, I’ll give you the tea!
-Jaclyn + Morphe announce that the collection will be launched June 26
-The launch date is pushed back to August 14 due to some palettes not meeting their “standards”
-Morphe gets sued by Becca Cosmetics for similar packaging design and is told to stop production immediately #?????
-The collection launches and many complain that they have received a “bad” palette
-Jaclyn/Morphe suddenly announce another collaboration – a brush set
Jaclyn and Morphe got themselves into a bit of a situation after being sued by Becca. Jaclyn tweets that the entire scandal is untrue but…seriously? The Morphe and Becca designs are almost identical
The brush set was probably a holiday collection that Morphe/Jaclyn decided to launch ahead of time to cover up the Becca/bad batch scandal.
As for the “bad palettes” who knows if this really even happened.
Jaclyn’s attempt to cover up the entire scandal (if true) is a typical PR move, which frankly…I am more than fine with. At the end of the day it’s just a makeup collection and the beauty world is getting a little too harsh for my taste.
The entire collection ($49) brings 4 palettes: Ring the Alarm (red toned colors), Bling Boss (purple shades), Dark Magic (a little bit of greens and blues), and Armed and Gorgeous (fall season colors).
The palette is completely versatile and works with any eye color. The pigmentation is exactly the same as her original palette which made me so happy! I own a ton of other Morphe palettes and none of them are as pigmented as these.
The shimmer shades are crazy good! I was totally shook; however, some of the matte shadows (maybe 3 in the entire collection) are a bit chalky but are still totally usable
The shadows in the Vault collection are the shades that didn't make it in on her OG palette, so you can already guess that the colors are a bit similar to the original.
In other words...if you loved her first palette, you'll love this collection!
Final verdict: I can’t promise that the Vault collection will completely replace my original JH palette (I love it that much!) but I’ll definitely be playing around with these every single day. They are truly amazing and despite the setback, I think Jaclyn and Morphe really made an amazing product. You can expect another review on her brush collection real soon!
