I’ve decided to get a little more personal on this post by sharing some motivational thoughts regarding the New Year (I'm a little late I know).
My resolutions from 2017 revolved around Self-Discovery. Sounds cliché…but you never really appreciate who you are until you look back on an entire year and think about all of the things you accomplished in 365 days.
2018 is simply the year….to be happy. Easier said than done.
Here's what to do!
FOCUS ON YOU
What’s something you do that makes YOU happy?
There are so many personal goals you can accomplish in just a year. In 2017 I found that writing on a platform like this was my way to self-happiness. Blogging has become a huge part of my life and I truly am happiest when I’m writing.
Whether it’s traveling around the world, a fitness goal or a new hobby, find something for YOU that no one can take away.
TRUST THE UNIVERSE
Family issues, relationship problems & anxiety over the future… we’ve all stressed over it.
I am a huge believer that everything happens for a reason.
If you didn’t get the job, you’ll find a better one.
If things didn’t work out with that guy, you’ll find someone who makes you happier.
Everything will eventually fall into place and better opportunities are on the way! Let go of anything that isn’t making you a better or happier person.
The future you have planned will most likely not be the exact one that’ll happen, but that’s the beauty of life! It’s so damn unpredictable!
Great things come when they are least expected and you shouldn't wallow over one thing that didn’t go “your way.”
FIND HAPPINESS IN SMALL THINGS
There are little things you can do in your everyday life that truly warm your soul. Whether it be picking up your favorite drink at Starbucks every morning or lighting your favorite candle every night, those personal things can lead you toward a happier self.
Every now and then I like to reflect on what I love/hate about myself. If you don’t love yourself…who will? Before trying to make anyone happy you should think about making yourself happy first. It’s okay to be a little selfish sometimes. Take steps to change what you hate. I’m quite aware that my personality type comes off as aggressive (I’m an Aries, don’t blame me) and I’m working on it (Including that RBF I have). Try to change what you hate and reflect on what you love about you. Self-love is what keeps me going every single day!
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GOOD PEOPLE
Your social circle may be constantly changing but that’s totally okay! Not all friendships last a lifetime. That doesn’t mean you should ever stop looking for other people to surround yourself with. Find a group of people who will serve as a support system. I’m all about “self-love” but that love wouldn’t come as easy if I didn’t have my girls by my side. The goal should be to create friendships everywhere you go.
To me, New Year resolutions should be about finding love in the things that you do. Before finding happiness in others, find happiness in yourself.
Everything eventually works itself out and the universe has got a plan for you. You just don’t know the outcome yet.
Cheers to a year filled with happiness & many margaritas!
